Bitcoin and Blockchain: Disruptive New Technologies in Financial Services

The Fair Winds Foundation held on July 15 a special lecture entitled “Bitcoin and Blockchain: Disruptive New Technologies in Financial Services” featuring Dr. Ansel Teng as speaker. The event discussed the development and potential applications of Bitcoin and blockchain and recent speculation behind digital currencies. 

According to Teng, Bitcoin is a technology able to subvert existing industries, and from the perspective of personal finance, Bitcoin can obtain more than 10 times profits within short amounts of time. However, from a larger perspective, the technological principles behind Bitcoin have far-reaching and amazing impacts on industries.

In the lecture, Teng introduced the history of Bitcoin and its technological foundations. Although technically complicated, Teng drew comparisons to technologies and concepts like peer-to-peer network, blockchain, and Bitcoin mining to help the audience better understand the ground-breaking significance and reasons of Bitcoin.
